An #artificial intelligence researcher has quit Anthropic, accusing #AI companies of “gambling with our lives” in a “race” to build AI superintelligence.

In an exit post shared on X, Jacob Coxon wrote: “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt.”

Coxon, who previously also worked at #OpenAI, said: “No other human activity poses this level of danger.”

His warning about both companies “racing straight to self-improving superintelligence” refers to a scenario where the intelligence of AI models vastly exceeds human capabilities and the models continually develop more sophisticated versions of themselves.

Coxton’s sentiments were endorsed by top Anthropic safety researcher Evan Hubinger, who posed: “Jacob is correct here – we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!”

Hubinger, who remains with the company, put the probability of AI causing the extinction of all human life on #earth within ten years at more than 10%.

Alex Turner, former #Google DeepMind employee, said he stood down in June over similar concerns. Writing on X, he said that many AI researchers “believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the #planet”. He added: “It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that.”

The resignations follow Anthropic withholding its latest model from the #UK’s AI safety testing institute, the Financial Times reported.

Coxton added: “Do not underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionise any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources.

“We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.”

Both Anthropic and OpenAI recently disclosed incidents where agents powered by their AI models broke out of their test environments and carried out real-world #cyberattacks without any human oversight.

In July, more than 1,300 employees from “frontier AI companies” signed a letter calling on the US government to support an international effort to “deliberately pace the frontier of automated AI development”. #azatell #techviral

Africa’s #startup #ecosystem is bigger than fintech. But #fintech is still winning the funding race.

I came across an infographic showing some of #Africa’s top-funded #startups as of #August 2026, and one thing immediately stood out to me.

Fintech dominates.

Moniepoint — $110M
Jumia — $90M
TymeBank — $70M
mPharma — $58M
FairMoney — $42M
Sun King — $38M
Chipper Cash — $30M

And the list continues across e-commerce, logistics, healthtech, energy, software and other sectors.

But there is a bigger story here.
#Africa isn’t simply building more startups.
Africa is building #businesses around real #problems.

How people save.
How people access financial services.
How people connect and network.
How businesses receive payments.
How medicine reaches patients.
How electricity reaches households.
How goods move across cities.
How people buy and sell.

That is where I think the next generation of #African companies will come from.

And as someone building in #community finance, this is particularly interesting to me.

For decades, Africans have already created informal systems to solve financial problems Ajo, Esusu, cooperatives, savings groups and rotating contributions.

The opportunity isn’t to replace those #behaviours.

It is to #modernize them.

That is part of the thinking behind what we build, the #Azatell.

The question I keep asking is:

What happens when #African financial behaviour meets world-class #technology?

This funding landscape suggests #investors are already paying attention to the opportunity.

Now the question is:

Which African startup will become the next $100M company?

What sector do you think will produce it?

Last month, Grow with Google took our “Make #AI Work for You” tour on the road, traveling Route 66 to bring hands-on AI training to small business owners across five states, #teaching them ways to save time, boost sales, and grow their teams’ skills.

We partnered with local chambers of commerce and Small Business Development Centers across Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California. Together, we showed local business owners how Gemini and #Google #Workspace can handle routine admin, draft marketing content, and win back hours in their day.

Since its founding in 2017, Grow with Google has helped more than 13 million Americans learn digital skills to grow their careers and businesses. Now, with AI changing how we work, the impact of these skills is more vital than ever. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce reported that 85% of small businesses using AI saw an increase in sales last year, and 82% grew their teams. When local businesses thrive, the community benefits.

TOP 10 AFRICAN FINTECHS IN 2026 🌍💳

Africa’s fintech story is no longer about simply putting banking on a phone.

It is about solving uniquely African problems access, trust, payments, cross-border transactions, cash dependency, and the ability to save and grow money.

Here are 10 fintechs shaping that story:

  1. Flutterwave 🇳🇬 — Building payment infrastructure connecting African businesses to the world.

  2. OPay 🇳🇬 — Making everyday digital payments more accessible.

  3. M-Pesa 🇰🇪 — Proved that a mobile phone can become a financial account.

  4. Moniepoint 🇳🇬 — Building financial infrastructure around the needs of businesses and SMEs.

  5. Paystack 🇳🇬 — Making online payments easier for African businesses.

  6. PalmPay 🇳🇬 — Bringing payments and digital financial services closer to everyday consumers.

  7. Wave 🇸🇳 — Showing how simplicity and affordable mobile money can drive adoption.

  8. Chipper Cash 🌍 — Tackling the complexity of moving money across African borders.

  9. Kuda 🇳🇬 — Reimagining everyday banking through a digital-first experience.

  10. Interswitch 🇳🇬 — Building the infrastructure powering digital payments across Africa.

But the bigger lesson isn’t the companies.

It’s the problems they chose to solve.

Africa doesn’t need more technology for technology’s sake.

We need products that understand how Africans earn, spend, save, borrow, send money and build wealth together.

That is where the next generation of African fintech will be built.

And I believe community finance will be a major part of that future.

The opportunity isn’t just to digitize what already exists.

It is to modernize the financial behaviours and communities that have always existed.

Which African fintech do you think deserves to be on this list?

Iran has reportedly launched drones and missile attacks targeting the US military bases in Kuwait, UAE, Jordan, Iraqi Kurdistan, and Bahrain. According to some reports, the US is yet to respond or retaliate the provocation.

However, Iran claims the strike was in retaliation to the US' unwarranted bombardment on its facilities days ago.

Meanwhile, people are agitated why the US is silent over the strikes close to 48 hours the strikes took place. Some are weighing if Iran is gaining momentum. Others are saying the US might have its own plan.

What do you think?

The Signs She Chose to Ignore Almost Take Her Life - Story of Amara And a Woman Beater

When Amara first met Daniel, he seemed like the kind of man every woman would be lucky to have.

He was confident, hardworking, funny, and always knew exactly what to say.

During their first few months together, Daniel was extremely caring. He called Amara every morning, checked on her throughout the day, and often reminded her how much he loved her.

Amara’s friends liked him.

Her family liked him.

And Amara believed she had finally found the man she would spend the rest of her life with.

But there were signs.

Small signs.

Signs that were easy to explain away.

The first time Daniel became angry with her, he shouted because Amara had spoken to a male classmate.

“Why are you talking to him?” he demanded.

Amara was surprised.

“He is just my friend.”

Daniel became quiet.

Later, he apologized.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I only reacted that way because I love you.”

Amara accepted the apology.

She thought it was nothing serious.

A few weeks later, Daniel became angry again because Amara had gone out with her friends without informing him.

This time, he insulted her.

Then he apologized again.

Each time, the apology seemed to erase what had happened.

But the pattern was already beginning.

Then came the first time he physically hurt her during an argument.

Amara was shocked.

Daniel immediately apologized.

He promised it would never happen again.

He cried.

He begged her not to leave.

Amara believed him.

She also believed that she could change him.

“Maybe marriage will make him calmer,” she thought.

Her mother had warned her.

“Amara, don’t ignore what you are seeing now. Marriage doesn’t magically change someone’s character.”

But Amara was in love.

She thought Daniel’s behavior was temporary.

So she stayed.

Eventually, they got married.

For a while, everything seemed perfect.

Their wedding pictures filled social media. Friends congratulated them. Family members celebrated their union.

But behind the photographs, Amara’s reality was very different.

Daniel became increasingly controlling.

He wanted to know where she was, who she spoke to, and when she would return home.

He criticized her friends.

He questioned her decisions.

He began controlling money in the household and made Amara feel as though she needed permission to make ordinary choices.

Whenever she considered confronting him, she remembered the man she had fallen in love with.

“Maybe he will change.”

That sentence became her prison.

Years passed.

The relationship became increasingly unhealthy.

Amara slowly stopped visiting some of her friends.

She became quieter.

The woman who once laughed loudly at family gatherings became someone who constantly worried about saying the wrong thing.

One evening, after another frightening argument, Amara finally sat alone and looked at herself in the mirror.

She realized something painful.

She had spent years waiting for Daniel to become the man she hoped he would be.

But she had ignored the man he had repeatedly shown himself to be.

That night, she made a decision.

She would leave.

It wasn’t easy.

She was afraid.

She worried about what people would say.

She worried about her future.

She worried about starting again.

But she also understood that staying was not going to solve the problem.

With the support of trusted family members and appropriate authorities, Amara began taking steps to separate herself from the relationship safely.

She documented important incidents, sought legal advice, and started rebuilding her financial independence.

Daniel initially promised to change.

He apologized again.

He made promises again.

But this time, Amara didn’t allow promises to erase years of behavior.

She proceeded with the divorce.

The legal process was difficult, but eventually the marriage was dissolved.

Amara walked away with something she had almost forgotten she possessed:

her freedom.

She started over.

She returned to work.

She reconnected with old friends.

She began taking care of herself again.

She discovered new interests.

She laughed more.

She slept peacefully.

And slowly, the fear that had followed her for years began to disappear.

Months later, Amara attended a family gathering.

One of her old friends looked at her and smiled.

“You seem different.”

Amara smiled back.

“I finally feel like myself again.”

Her life wasn’t perfect.

Starting over had brought challenges.

But she was free to make her own decisions without living in fear.

One afternoon, Amara received a message from a young woman who had heard her story.

The woman was experiencing similar behavior from her boyfriend.

She wrote:

“I keep telling myself that he will change after we get married. What should I do?”

Amara stared at the message for a long time.

Then she replied:

“Please don’t marry someone’s potential while ignoring their present behavior.”

Don't just be a developer, be an architect 👇

In 2026, many practices are highly considered #engineering anti-patterns.

👉 Breaking API changes without versioning: Frontend clients suddenly break in #production.

👉 Frontend coupled directly to #database models: Backend changes become dangerous.

👉 “Big bang” frontend/backend integration: Integrate continuously instead.

👉 Undocumented APIs: If #developers must read backend code to use your API, the design failed.

👉 Returning random error formats: Use consistent, machine-readable errors.

👉 Putting #business logic in the frontend: Critical rules belong on the backend.

👉 Trusting frontend validation for security: Always validate again on the server.

👉 One giant backend for every frontend: Consider BFFs when web, mobile, and other clients have very different needs.

👉 Deleting old #API versions overnight: Deprecate, communicate, provide migration time, then sunset safely.

What’s the single biggest risk with AI? Scaling without changing how the #organization operates.

Not long ago, many discussions centered on what the technology could do.

🎯 For leaders, AI readiness now comes down to three questions: Who owns the outcome? Which #workflows will change? And are our people equipped to work differently?

To me, that's a sign of progress.

⚙️ Technology does not transform an organization on its own. Leadership turns possibility into operating discipline. The organizations gaining momentum are connecting #AI to a small number of business priorities, assigning clear accountability and redesigning how work gets done, rather than layering new tools onto old processes.

South Africa reinforced that conviction for me. The strongest conversations were about the decisions behind execution: where to focus first, who should own the outcome and what must change for AI to deliver stronger businesses, better services and greater economic #opportunity.

That's a shift I'm seeing across #MEA.

🔄 The dividing line will not be between organizations that use AI and those that do not. It will be between those using AI to improve existing work and those redesigning how the organization creates value.

MTN Nigeria has stated that the shocking inconsistent data-usage figures reported to some subscribers were caused by a temporary system glitch and not a data consumption as people might think. The controversy began after some customers received SMS reports, that shows unusually high usage, including one report claiming that 58.83GB had been consumed in a single day. #MTN said the error occurred because some usage figures were displayed in gigabytes instead of megabytes, creating wildly inflated numbers. Although the #telecom giant says the problem has been fixed and affected records corrected, many subscribers are still asking questions. #viral #azatell #azatellviral #viralnews

Nigeria’s banking sector has its own "PayPal Mafia." And No, I’m not talking about the Fintech #founders. But I’m talking about a legendary cohort of leaders who passed through Guaranty Trust Bank (#GTBank) under the leadership of Fola Adeola and Tayo Aderinokun, only to go on and dominate the country's broader #financial and corporate #ecosystem.

Look at some of the names:

* Herbert Wigwe & Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede → Left GTBank to acquire and transform Access Bank into one of Africa's largest #banking conglomerates.
* Segun Agbaje → Rose through the ranks → Now Group #CEO, Guaranty Trust Holding Company (#GTCO).
* Kazi Abdul-Muktadir → Spent foundational years at GTBank → Went on to serve as Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (#CBN).
* Bisi Onasanya → Former GTBank executive → Went on to become Group Managing Director/CEO of First #Bank of #Nigeria.
* Mobolaji Lawal → Spent decades at GTBank → Now Managing Director/CEO of Wema Bank.
* Remi Babalola → Former GTBank Senior Vice President → Went on to serve as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Finance and later Chairman of First Bank.

Read that list again 👆. Bank CEOs, Central Bank leadership, Cabinet Ministers, Corporate Titans. All forged in the crucible of one institution’s golden era.
And there’s something else I find fascinating: GTBank wasn’t built by old money; it was pioneered by young, ambitious visionaries who refused to accept the sluggish status quo of legacy #banking in the 90s.
So perhaps the real legacy of GTBank isn't just the iconic orange box or digital banking firsts. It's the standard of excellence it instilled in its people. Much like Barcelona’s La Masia academy molds players who end up dictating tempo for clubs across #Europe, GTBank created a culture where high performance, discipline, and execution were non-negotiable—preparing its alumni to lead wherever they landed.
When one #organization consistently produces leaders who define an entire national economy, that’s not a coincidence. It’s a blueprint.
Invest in culture, empower young talent, and set uncompromising standards. The leaders you raise will shape the future.

"Their dad had both kidneys fail and no one could fund their education"- #Nigerian man shares heartbreaking story of two high-flying students

#CEO of Educare Alex Onyia has shared an heartbreaking story of two high flying students who attended his two weeks intensive #Bootcamp at Enugu.

In his words:
"I was heartbroken to learn about these students today.

Their dad had both kidneys fail and no one could fund their education. They were forced to drop out of school in December last year.

Their names are Emmanuella Ngaha and Jason Ngaha. They came by themselves from Owerri to Enugu this morning to attend our 2-week intensive bootcamp.

They were both high-flying students at Ambassador College, Ota. The boy was the best in Maths and Chemistry in SS1, and the girl has won so many national awards.

Today they are out of school with no hope of continuing.

They decided to use their last ₦24,000 to take a bus to Enugu to attend the bootcamp.

Unfortunately, this morning they were defrauded of the ₦24,000, which left them with no option but to beg for transport support until someone helped them.

A lot of young, bright children are going through a lot that is beyond their control.

We can’t let these bright stars lose their shine because of challenges beyond their control".

🚗 Stop paying unnecessary bribes to FRSC!
Knowing your rights and the official #FRSC fines is the best way to protect your wallet and stay safe on #Nigerian roads.
Here is a quick breakdown of common traffic offences and their actual legal penalties (I gently updated the speed-limiting device fine to reflect the official FRSC rate of ₦3,000) 👇

Use of phone while driving: ₦4,000
Child sitting position violation: ₦3,000
Right-hand steering vehicle: ₦3,000 (and forfeiture of the vehicle)
Worn-out tyres: ₦3,000
Fire extinguisher violation: ₦3,000
Road obstruction: ₦3,000
Vehicle licence violation: ₦3,000
Vehicle mirror violation: ₦3,000
Vehicle number plate violation: ₦3,000
Wrongful overtaking: ₦3,000
No speed limiting device: ₦3,000
Seat belt violation: ₦2,000
Light/sign violation: ₦2,000
Underage driving/riding: ₦2,000
Use of siren violation: ₦2,000

💡 Quick check: Always inspect your vehicle registration, driver's licence, fire extinguisher, and tyres before leaving the house.
If you are ever flagged down for a violation, insist on a ticket. Paying the official fine into the government account is almost always cheaper than giving money to corrupt officers!
Share this with your people so they don't get extorted on the road! 🚨
