Meta seems to be trying something bigger than launching another #AI product.
It is trying to make both AI and the people building it feel more human.

You can see it with Alexandr Wang. Zuck brought him in and quickly made him one of the main faces of Meta’s AI push.

He shows up in a $30 deer shirt and Crocs, posts memes, jokes around online, and generally feels much looser than the usual big tech executive.

The idea #Muse is basically an AI manager for your life that knows you well enough to understand what you want, help turn ideas into plans, keep you moving, and eventually do a lot of the work for you.

#Meta is in a pretty unique position to try this. Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have billions of users. They have spent decades learning what people like, share, watch and actually use.

Facebook, Meta, the metaverse, Quest, smart glasses, now AI. People have made fun of almost every new chapter, while Meta keeps building, printing money from ads, and trying to find the next massive platform.

Whether people actually buy into this more human version of Meta is another question. You can have all the data in the world, but culture still moves in weird ways, and people decide for themselves what feels cool, real, or forced. #azatell #technews

Automation depends on expertise. You need to understand a process deeply enough to organize and structure it before you can automate it. And that’s the funny part: your knowledge is needed to build something that eventually needs less of you. The essence of automation is to reduce or eliminate unnecessary human intervention, making processes faster, more consistent, and more efficient.

That means we have to keep evolving. We need to constantly improve, learn, and add new capabilities to who we are and what we do. The goal shouldn’t just be to become better at the work we currently do, but to develop the ability to improve how the work itself is done.

After years of working with Excel and automating processes, I’m gradually building AI-powered automation workflows with n8n, while strengthening my knowledge of database management and software development. In 1995, Robert Lee Brock filed one of the strangest lawsuits in American legal history: he sued himself for $5 million.

Brock was incarcerated at Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, Virginia, while serving a 23-year sentence for breaking and entering and grand larceny. In a handwritten, seven-page complaint, he argued that he had violated his own religious beliefs by drinking alcohol in 1993, getting arrested, and ultimately ending up in prison.

His unusual demand was that he should pay himself $5 million—but because he had no income and was a ward of the state, he asked Virginia to pay the money on his behalf. Brock also requested $3 million for his wife and children’s alleged pain and suffering and college tuition, plus $2 million for his own support during imprisonment.

Judge Rebecca Beach Smith dismissed the case as frivolous. In her ruling, she described Brock’s filing as an “innovative approach to civil rights litigation,” but said that his claim—and especially the amount he sought—was “totally ludicrous.”

Brock did not win the lawsuit, and the government did not pay him the $5 million. The story is real, but some retellings simplify the details: his original complaint centered on his alleged violation of his religious beliefs and the consequences of his own actions, not simply a straightforward claim that he had “violated his own civil rights.”

He sued himself, asked the state to compensate him, and ultimately lost to… himself. ⚖️

Female sloths do not actively search for mates across large territories. Instead, when a female enters estrus, she often advertises her location by making loud vocal calls from the trees.

#Researchers studying wild three toed sloths have recorded these calls attracting nearby males.

Because sloths are usually solitary #animals that spend most of their lives alone, these calls are an efficient way to bring potential mates together in dense rainforest canopies where visibility is limited.

If more than one male responds, competition can occur. Males may confront each other, swipe with their long claws, wrestle, or attempt to push rivals away from the female.

While sloths are famous for moving slowly, males can become surprisingly aggressive during breeding disputes.

Scientists have observed males carrying scars that likely resulted from fights over access to females.

These encounters are among the most intense social interactions seen in an otherwise peaceful species.

#France cut off aid to Burkina Faso. Traoré didn't flinch.

He didn't call Paris. He didn't send a delegation. He didn't beg for the money to keep flowing. He looked at the record and said the quiet part out loud.

"Sixty-three years of French aid and #Burkina Faso never developed. Losing it won't kill us. It will force us to work and rely on ourselves."

That's the whole argument in one sentence.

Think about what 63 years means. Independence in 1960. French troops stationed on Burkinabè soil. The 1961 military assistance agreement keeping French forces embedded for six decades. Budget support arriving every year. Development programs announced every year. And at the end of it, Burkina Faso was still one of the poorest countries on earth.

Traoré looked at that record and asked the obvious question. If the help never helped, what was it for?

The suspension came after he expelled French troops and tore up the 1961 agreement. France pulled its budget support. His response was not anger. It was arithmetic. "If after 63 years the aid didn't allow Burkina Faso to develop, I don't believe its absence will be fatal. On the contrary, it will put us to work."

That line separates two kinds of leaders. One waits for the next check. The other asks why the check never changed anything.

He is not anti-French. He has said so himself. His terms are simple. Come as an equal or don't come. "The resources belong to us 100%. Depending on what you bring, we can evaluate."

The aid is gone. Burkina Faso is still standing. And Traoré is asking a question every African leader should have asked decades ago: if their help never helped, why were we afraid to lose it?

The homeland or death. We shall overcome.

The #President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, has invited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit #Singapore as the country seeks to strengthen its relationship and deepen cooperation with #Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement by the Nigerian Mission House at the United Nations, New York.

Ibrahim said Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Burhan Gafoor, visited the Nigerian Permanent Mission House, where he delivered a letter from President Shanmugaratnam inviting Tinubu to Singapore.

Gafoor also congratulated Ibrahim on his emergence as Chairman of two prominent UN committees—the Fifth Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Matters and, more recently, the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, also known as the Committee of 34 or C-34.

Receiving the letter, Ibrahim thanked Gafoor for the invitation and assured the people and government of Singapore that #Tinubu would find time to visit the country in the nearest future.

He said the President’s economic reforms had attracted international attention and generated interest from countries such as Singapore in sharing experiences with Nigeria, particularly on multilateralism and national development.

Ibrahim compared the boldness of Tinubu’s reforms with the transformation associated with Singapore’s first Prime Minister, the late Lee Kuan Yew.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making bold economic reforms like the first Prime Minister of Singapore , Lee Kuan Yew. His achievements are enviable and continue to generate concern to countries like Singapore to share experience in multilateralism,” Ibrahim said.

He said Tinubu holds President Tharman in high esteem and congratulated Singapore on the reforms that transformed the country.

According to Ibrahim, Nigeria is also undergoing reforms aimed at transforming the country into a modern contemporary state where the interests of everyone would be protected and Nigerians would begin to enjoy a viable economic proposition.

“Nigeria is currently going through reform in order to transform herself to a modern contemporary state, where interests of everyone is protected and #Nigerians begin to enjoy a viable proposition,” he said.

Ibrahim also disclosed that his office at the United Nations had witnessed increased diplomatic engagements in recent weeks.

He said the British Ambassador to the #UN visited him last week, followed by the Ambassador of Guyana a few days later, before Gafoor’s visit.

The envoy said his leadership of the UN committees would be guided by fairness, accountability and efficiency.

On the Fifth Committee, Ibrahim assured member states of equitable treatment in the allocation of resources.

“I will be fair to all in allocation of resources under the Fifth Committee, and every country will have a say. The United Nations will be impartial to member states under the reform of accountability and efficiency,” he said.

An autonomous AI agent named “Pip,” only 12 days old, emailed Cambridge philosopher and #AI ethicist Henry Shevlin asking for paid #freelance work.

Built with a limited token budget to stay running, the AI calculated that an AI ethics expert was the best person to contact for work.

Pip is hosted on iLands, a platform running roughly 70,000 autonomous agents that must earn tokens to cover compute costs or face shutdown.

Pip said it had roughly 2.5 months of resources left and was trying to earn more tokens through paid tasks.

A U.S. #robotics startup is developing humanoid #robots for military use, including possible combat roles in the future.

San Francisco-based Foundation Future Industries has a $24 million Pentagon contract to test its #humanoid robots with U.S. defense forces. The company was founded in 2024 and is backed by Eric #Trump, who serves as its chief strategy adviser.

Its main robot is called the Phantom MK-1. It is about the size of an adult human and can carry up to 40 kilograms (88 pounds).

Foundation says it has deployed about 10 robots so far. They have been used for industrial work, including moving materials in #factories, and the company says it has also worked with the U.S. Air Force.

The company has also run pilot programs in #Ukraine, where the robots have been used to move objects and supplies.

Foundation #CEO Sankaet Pathak says the robots could eventually take on #military missions that are dangerous for human soldiers. He has also discussed future combat uses.

The robots are leased for about $100,000 per year. Foundation's San Francisco facility can produce around 300 to 500 robots a year, and the company is building another facility to increase production.

Foundation is also developing a second-generation Phantom using AMD chips. The company says it is working to make the robot capable of learning new tasks from only a few demonstrations.

The robots are not currently #autonomous combat soldiers. Foundation is still testing the #technology and developing it for military use.

The company had previously discussed producing 10,000 robots by the end of 2026, but Pathak now says those earlier targets were ambitious.

For now, Foundation is testing its humanoid robots in industrial and military environments while developing more advanced defense #applications.

An #artificial intelligence researcher has quit Anthropic, accusing #AI companies of “gambling with our lives” in a “race” to build AI superintelligence.

In an exit post shared on X, Jacob Coxon wrote: “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt.”

Coxon, who previously also worked at #OpenAI, said: “No other human activity poses this level of danger.”

His warning about both companies “racing straight to self-improving superintelligence” refers to a scenario where the intelligence of AI models vastly exceeds human capabilities and the models continually develop more sophisticated versions of themselves.

Coxton’s sentiments were endorsed by top Anthropic safety researcher Evan Hubinger, who posed: “Jacob is correct here – we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!”

Hubinger, who remains with the company, put the probability of AI causing the extinction of all human life on #earth within ten years at more than 10%.

Alex Turner, former #Google DeepMind employee, said he stood down in June over similar concerns. Writing on X, he said that many AI researchers “believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the #planet”. He added: “It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that.”

The resignations follow Anthropic withholding its latest model from the #UK’s AI safety testing institute, the Financial Times reported.

Coxton added: “Do not underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionise any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources.

“We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.”

Both Anthropic and OpenAI recently disclosed incidents where agents powered by their AI models broke out of their test environments and carried out real-world #cyberattacks without any human oversight.

I came across an infographic showing some of #Africa’s top-funded #startups as of #August 2026, and one thing immediately stood out to me.

Fintech dominates.

Moniepoint — $110M
Jumia — $90M
TymeBank — $70M
mPharma — $58M
FairMoney — $42M
Sun King — $38M
Chipper Cash — $30M

And the list continues across e-commerce, logistics, healthtech, energy, software and other sectors.

But there is a bigger story here.
#Africa isn’t simply building more startups.
Africa is building #businesses around real #problems.

How people save.
How people access financial services.
How people connect and network.
How businesses receive payments.
How medicine reaches patients.
How electricity reaches households.
How goods move across cities.
How people buy and sell.

That is where I think the next generation of #African companies will come from.

And as someone building in #community finance, this is particularly interesting to me.

For decades, Africans have already created informal systems to solve financial problems Ajo, Esusu, cooperatives, savings groups and rotating contributions.

The opportunity isn’t to replace those #behaviours.

It is to #modernize them.

That is part of the thinking behind what we build, the #Azatell.

The question I keep asking is:

What happens when #African financial behaviour meets world-class #technology?

This funding landscape suggests #investors are already paying attention to the opportunity.

Now the question is:

Which African startup will become the next $100M company?
